Train

Ralpin Control Room & Telematics

Central Supervision of "Huckepack" Trains

Customer's Challenge

The drivers of the "rollenden Landstrasse" stay in a train carriage while their trucks roll through Switzerland on the railway. These carriages and the complete trains are scheduled and controlled from a control center. Our customer was responsible for the development of the complete system. The Internet of Things part had to be developed anew, the back-end including the user interface existed for road vehicles and had to be adapted as efficient and fast as possible for railway operations.

Outcome

We supported the customer to generate the specifications and then mainly undertook the adaptations and enhancements for railway, so the customer did not need to use own resources. By taking over the project management for our part and iterative delivery the system could be put into operation quickly.

Implementation

The most important skill in this project was the project team’s ability to quickly familiarize themselves with the domain knowledge and existing technology. Thanks to this, combined with the agile, iterative delivery of new versions, operations were efficiently optimized.

Customer

Ralpin was the operator of the „rolling highway” between Germany and Italy through the Lötschberg and Simplon tunnels.
