The first Swiss helicopter, the Skye SH09 of Marenco Swisshelicopter needed a flexible flight test instrumentation (FTI). The FTI records the measured values of analog signals, strain gauges, vibration sensors but also of ARINC buses and many more. An important part of those signals must be transmitted from rotary parts, e.g. the rotor head to the helicopter, in addition all data is made available in real time on the ground station.
The software had to be so flexible as to allow the customization for the particular test flight by the test engineering of the customer, the complete remaining engineering is taken over by us. The hardware consists whenever possible of commercial standard components, mechanically installed and with the according connectors attached to cope with the rough environment of the helicopter.
This project was mainly about system integration from software to mechanics for single units. The LabVIEW software does not only control the measurements and record the data, but can be configured in a traceable manner through a spreadsheet. For communication industrial WLAN components and standard mobile wireless (LTE) are used.
